When I was 12 years old, I joined a Presbyterian Church in Miami Fl.. My Sunday school
teacher explained that each person must make their own decision to give their life to God and
accept Jesus for themselves. I understood, that Jesus died for me, and shed his blood to forgive
me of all of my sins. I did make a conscious decision then to accept what Jesus had done for me
and to serve Him.
However, I really did not make any big changes in my life, and as time went on I experienced
things in Junior High, that wouldn’t be an example of the lifestyle that Jesus requires. When I
entered the 11th grade, I was inducted into an “unofficial” sorority called, “Soirée”, which is
French for “party”. The name pretty much said it all. The group was all about drinking and
partying. It was at this time that I gave myself wholly to God, I realized that Jesus was my best
friend. Although, I had no negative experiences with the sorority, I didn’t want to do the things
the other girls were doing. I wanted to serve God. I turned away from partying, and I sought out
Christian friends. I also sought the Holy Spirit. I attended a youth service at the Presbyterian
Church, the theme of the service was, the Holy Spirit. Someone read the scripture where it says
that God would give you groanings and utterings that cannot be uttered. I understood what it
meant and wanted it, and I knew that God would give me a prayer language if I asked Him for it.
I sought out Christians who had this experience, and I prayed to receive the Holy Spirit and I
received my prayer language that night and began to speak in tongues.
My family, which consisted of my father and mother, and 2 sisters, did not have the same
experience that I had encountered. Also, I knew that if I told them of my experience, they would
think I was crazy. Later, when they found out what had happened to me, you guessed it, they
thought I was crazy!
For as long as I can remember I would pray for my family every night saying, “ Lord, draw my
family to you by Your Holy Spirit” and then I would pray for them in tongues.
Years later, I was married and living in Atlanta, attending a Spirit filled church. During a
Tuesday morning service, the pastor called me out and gave me a word from the Lord. The word
went something like this, “Your family will serve the Lord as one, as a unit, they will serve the
same God. And you will be a great and mighty testimony of the great things that God has done!”
I got really excited, and shared what God had said to me with my mother over the phone. She
was offended, what I was sharing with her was not well received.
However, something must have clicked in her for she asked for my help. During that time, my
sister was dealing with severe anxiety and depression, so much so, she became suicidal. Her
husband had problems of his own, he was a drug addict and an alcoholic, what you would call a
real “heathen”.
At that time, my mother was taking my sister to Shands Hospital for therapy to help her deal
with her anxiety and depression. My mother also tried taking her to a local Baptist Church, to
help her spiritually. My mother called me and said, “I don’t know what to do with your sister, I’
ve done everything I can and it’s not helping her. Please call her and see if you can help her.”
which I did. I read Romans 10: 9 & 10 to her over the phone. I explained that Jesus died and
shed his blood, and arose from the dead to pay for her sins. I asked her if she believed that. We
prayed and I asked God to forgive her for all of her sins and through her sobbing she made Jesus
the Lord of her life and was born again.
I found someone who went to the Lighthouse Word Church, and asked I her if she would take
my sister to church with her. The pastors George and Carol Kearns, fed her the Word of God
and nurtured her and taught her that the only way out of her depression and anxiety, was to
meditate on the word of God until you believed it. She also prayed to receive the Holy Spirit
and as He fell on her in her home, her husband watched and was amazed by her supernatural
experience. Not long after, her husband was born again, and when he received the Holy Spirit, he
was completely delivered from drugs, alcohol, and profanity.
Jesus called both my brother-law and my sister into the ministry and they are now associate
pastors at the Lighthouse Word Church. Their names are: Walter and Jane Turner.
As my parents Liz and Wes Williams, began to see the miraculous changes that were taking
place in Jane and Walter’s lives, they too began attending the Lighthouse Word Church and
became tongue talking, Spirit filled Christians.
My other sister, Anne Tallent, who was attending a denominational church in Gainesville also
began attending the Lighthouse Word Church where she also received the Holy Ghost. Today,
so many years later, all of our children are born again and filled with the Holy Spirit. God has
done miraculous things in my family and the Lighthouse Word Church was the great instrument
in His plan to redeem my family. God is good, all the time. Praise the Lord!
